Addie Place Tree

Posted by Em!ly Ng (Residing in: Adelaide, Australia | Home:, Singapore) on 17 October 2008 in Plant & Nature and Portfolio.

I first noticed this tree in winter. It's fine branches formed a beautiful, delicate shape which I loved.

Spring came earlier for the other trees down Grote St, meanwhile, I appreciated the extra limited time I had before leaves grew and "messed" up its shape.

I must say it "leaved" up pretty nicely thought, holding it's form. i may actually prefer this splash of colour that spring is bringing!

Unique treatment- this has that school project look where you cut and paste magazine pictures into a collage. Very nice color and composition. I think under the blue sky and some tweaking of your LX2, you do an equally good job without the treatment.

@Howard F.: lol! u're right! it does look abit 2D/cut-and-paste.. what do u mean abt the tweaking of the LX-2? settings u mean?
Thanks for your comment! =)

JJ from Jersey City, United States

@JJ: thanks for the feedback =) was a bit apprehensive how people would view the photo after i've revealed it's photoshop DOF lol..

Jatin from New Delhi, India

nice pic, what works for me is the contrast between the building and the living, thriving tree!

@Jatin: thanks for the feedback! interesting way of looking at it =) i including the wall for some context.

Lorna from Regina, Canada

the tree looks placed there, sitting there in all it's perfection beside the building. Very nice image. I'd love to see it in winter as well.

@Lorna: i wish i got a photo of it in winter too! i didnt have one cos i didnt know how best to bring out what i see but i guess i must try! 4 more winters to capture it.... next yr!

ok cool. maybe a "lens-baby" would be your style? have you seen them in action ?

18 Oct 2008 8:46am

@Matt Sutton: yup, i'be seen them in action =) didnt consider getting one cos i dont have a dSLR so cant really attach it to my camera. now that u mentioned it, i'll prolly enjoy using it... thanks for the suggestion!

Andrew Gould from Sydney, Australia

What a beautiful, colourful image. The strength of the wall jutting upwards makes for an odd, but effective counterbalance to the main part of this composition. Your out of focus background is a nice touch, too.

19 Oct 2008 5:42am

@Andrew Gould: interesting insight- that small but solid wall does balance that large organic form! i didnt intend it to be so - tryed to provide grounding and sense of contxt by including it (rather than a floating tree). Thanks for comment andrew. sorry for all the late replies!
